New food crop

New food crop - I had the good fortune to see a beautiful specimen of Brachystelma glabriflorum in full flower last month.

This plant is related to Stapeliads & Hoyas, and the attractive flowers look like a 'cross' between the two genera.

An Australian native Brachystelma, it has a vine rising from a tuberous stem, and has been recently identified as a potential new food crop.

For more information contact the Australian New Crops website or the Rural Industires Research & Development Corporation.
